The Global Talent visa allows highly skilled individuals in science, technology, engineering, arts, and humanities to work in the UK. Recent updates to the immigration rules (effective 22 July 2025) have introduced changes to eligibility, endorsements, and application processes.

What is the Global Talent Visa?

The Global Talent visa is a points-free immigration route for applicants recognized as leaders or emerging leaders in their field. The visa allows:

  • Work in the UK for any employer.

  • Switch jobs or become self-employed.

  • Bring family members.

  • Stay in the UK for up to 5 years and apply for settlement.

Example: A software engineer recognized for groundbreaking AI research can apply under the technology route and work for any UK tech company without a sponsor.

Key Changes Effective 22 July 2025

1. Endorsement Requirements Updated

  • Endorsement now requires applicants to meet higher standards of recognition in their field.

  • Approved endorsing bodies may have new criteria for evaluation, particularly in science and technology sectors.

  • Emerging leaders must demonstrate significant contribution or potential.

2. Salary and Job Flexibility

  • While there is no minimum salary, endorsements may consider the applicant’s current role and contributions.

  • Visa holders can now freely switch employers or become self-employed immediately after endorsement approval.

3. Eligible Sectors Clarified

  • Technology and science remain priority sectors.

  • Arts and humanities endorsement now includes digital and creative industries.

  • The government has provided guidance for evaluating cross-disciplinary achievements.

4. Visa Duration and Settlement

  • Initial visa up to 5 years.

  • Fast-track settlement eligibility for exceptionally talented individuals.

  • Dependents can also stay and work freely.

Who Can Apply?

Applicants must be:

  • Recognized leaders (“exceptional talent”) or

  • Emerging leaders (“exceptional promise”) in one of the following areas:

    • Science, research, and academia

    • Digital technology

    • Arts, culture, and creative industries

Example: An award-winning filmmaker could apply under arts, while a scientist leading cutting-edge medical research can apply under the science route.

How to Apply

  1. Obtain Endorsement

    • Apply to an approved endorsing body in your sector.

    • Provide evidence of achievements, awards, or publications.

  2. Submit Visa Application

    • After endorsement, apply for the Global Talent visa on gov.uk.

  3. Work and Live in the UK

    • Once granted, you can live, work, and bring dependents.
